Do I know everything about my post-op recovery for breast surgery?
April 20, 2019In case you become so totally involved with planning your medical journey, and you lose sight of some details, here is a thing or two that you might want to put on your list.
Is breast surgery your main goal?
Whether breast implants, breast reduction or breast lifting, the first thing to know is you will be limited in arm movements from the shoulder up for at least one month, so do not count on exercise or movements from the torso and arms area until some healing has occurred.
Once a month has gone by, you can start judging for yourself how the body reacts to certain movements and start, gently, with mild exercise and limited movements.
The second important thing to keep in mind is to allow time for your surgery incisions to heal, so stay out of the sun. That means no sun tanning or sun exposure for a few weeks. All patients are different, so depending on your type of surgery and skin health, your doctor will give you a general timeline for sun tanning, swimming and exercise.
I am often asked about sensation in the nipple area, and yes it will come back, but it may take up to a year for the normal feelings to come back. The nerve endings will repair themselves, but slowly.
The internet is a good place to research the type of implants you will want. The most popular breast implants are gummy bear silicone cohesive gel. You will have the opportunity to feel them and discuss the brands, types and shapes with your plastic surgeon during your pre-surgery exam, and you may choose the style and size you wish with your doctor.
So my advice is, stay a little ahead of the curve by considering in advance your life style, overall image and goals before your trip so you can consciously make the right decision and get the results you wish.
One of my ladies, a young girl from Atlanta, Georgia, told me after her breast surgery: “I am so happy with the way my new breasts look, I made the right decision about the shape of my implants, I could never be happier”
I want this to be you! Happy with your choice and your new look.
