True facts about hair transplant and hair restoration

June 30, 2019

Hi again! This is an interesting article for all people looking into hair transplantation. A few days ago I met such a nice guy from Brighton, England who came to San José, Costa Rica for the second time to get a follow-up appointment for his hair transplant procedure.  At the meeting, he had a lot to tell me about this subject which was brand new to me.

He started by telling me “Compare your hair with plants.  A hair transplant takes hair from the back of the head and moves it forward to ‘areas of opening.’ You still need fertilizer for the neighboring plants—the hairs that aren’t doing well. A fertilizer is something like the medications called Rogaine or Propecia. They actually work really well in combination: Propecia, to stop the progression of male pattern hair loss, and Rogaine, to thicken the hair.”

These medications aren’t necessary for the transplant itself to succeed, you should probably take them for the appearance of your hair. Is best to do both. The medications work really well—but they can only do so much and that’s where the transplant comes in.”

He then continued telling me about the progression of his hair restoration. He said: “my Dr. warned me of this fact “your transplanted hairs do grow right away, but they shed out. About four months after the procedure, you can expect to be pretty much where you started. You’ll be back to the beginning, because the hairs feel shock. They rest and then they regrow. After that, they’re in for life—assuming the hair in the back of the head is still growing for life. Which, in most patients, it is…. And yes it did happen to me, thank God my Dr. explained this to me, otherwise it would have freaked me out.”

“When this happened to me, I felt a sense of relief that my body’s acting normally. Because if I wasn’t warned I wouldn’t be prepared, I would have been devastated.”

Finally he told me this: “never the hairline should be symmetrical like many people including myself would think at the beginning of this whole experience for hair restoration. It is the opposite because small irregularities will make the hairline look natural. He says the trick is to have a balanced volume of hair without creating an identical, perfectly uniform hairline.  This way the hair transplant look as natural as possible.”

It did, I couldn’t notice at all he previously had a hair transplant procedure because his hairline and volume looked very natural to me. So it is a sequence of actions which would give the results people are expecting to have thicker, healthier and natural looking hair. In regards of the maintenance of the results as this guy was explaining me, it is important to take medications to keep it up.
