Preparation for my plastic surgery procedure

July 25, 2019

Hello everybody! This time I am going to share a recent story of a patient from Austin, Texas who went through a stressful time because he did not pay enough attention to what foods and medicines he should stop eating or taking before his plastic surgery. He had a tummy tuck with liposuction in San José, Costa Rica which went ok because he had excellent surgeons, even though he had a little complication because he did not stop taking his cinnamon supplements.

After our conversation he gave me a list of things you “as a patient” should stop taking before having plastic surgery or any other surgery:

HEALTH SUPPLEMENTS:

Natural foods high in salicylate (curry, pepper, ginger, paprika, thyme, cinnamon, dill, oregano, turmeric, licorice, peppermint, raisins, cherries, cranberries, oranges, prunes, grapes, strawberries, chewing gum, honey, wine, cider, vinegar).  PLEASE STOP TAKING THEM  2 weeks prior to surgery.

Vitamin E:   stop taking no later than 1 week prior to surgery

Fish oil/omega 3 fatty acids:   stop taking no later than 1 week prior to surgery

Gingko biloba:   stop taking taking no later than 2 weeks prior to surgery

St. Johns wort:   stop taking no later than 1 week prior to surgery

Garlic: stop taking no later than 1 week prior to surgery

MEDICATIONS:

Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, meloxicam, celecoxib, etc.).   PLEASE STOP TAKING THEM  2 weeks prior to surgery.

The above is not intended to be medical advice, they are only helpful hints.  Please check with your doctor before taking or discontinuing any food or medicines.  And, it is very important to consult with your physician about any prescribed medications you are taking.  Do not suspend any without his/her clearance.  Please specify to your doctor about not-suspended medications.

Like I always say to you all, find a good plastic surgeon and read everything that his/her office sends you, every detail counts here, that way your medical journey will be satisfactory and successful.

In order to get the best out of your experience; preparation and planning are the keywords for this kind of trip. This website I find very informative for prices, how to finalize your plans about your medical vacation, and it is also highly recommended by patients I know:
