Eyelid lift – what to expect..
March 30, 2020For my readers planning an eyelid lift surgery (also called Blepharoplasty) here are answers to important questions that may be on your mind:
What is the actual recovery time for the eyelids?
From day one, you will be fully mobile, so if having the eyelid lift in Costa Rica, there is no reason why you can’t travel back home after the 4th day following surgery. You will be able to see through the puffiness and navigate o.k. beginning on the 2nd day following surgery.
Will I have black eyes?
Yes, probably. Your eyes will be puffy and somewhat black and blue. Puffy for about 3 days following surgery, and black and blue in some areas for about 7 days, fading after that.
How long do I have to stay out of the sun/water?
You will need to stay out of the sun for 3 weeks, and out of the water for about 4 weeks. Your incisions need time to heal and the skin needs time to return to a natural level. If you heal faster, the timetable may be moved up.
When can I really go back to work?
You can go back to work in about one week following surgery. You will still be puffy and a little black and blue, but fully mobile and able to see o.k. If you want to wait for 2 weeks following surgery, you will look more normal (but not perfect until about the 4th week).
What should I expect pain-wise?
You will have no pain at all. The incisions are very small and an eyelid lift is not painful. You will be feeling fine, not to worry. You can take Tylenol if any pain, but you probably won’t need anything. As mentioned, you will be fully mobile on the 2nd day following surgery.
The answers for eyelid lifts above are actually the same if you are planning to have a face lift, or a combination facelift and eyelid lift or a combination of other facial procedures. This comes from my own observations and experience with patients who come to Costa Rica and Mexico for facelifts, eyelid lifts, brow lift, cheek implants and other facial procedures.
