Tummy tuck is the number one favorite abdomen enhancement procedure!
April 7, 2020People wishing to improve the appearance of their abdomen after not much success with diet and exercise, opt to go for surgical procedures such as liposuction but many plastic surgeons will recommend a combination of a tummy tuck with some liposuction to get the best results to trim and flatten the abdomen.
Many of my patients come for both procedures together because they need to get rid of both excess skin and stubborn belly fat to achieve the perfect figure. Ladies who have had kids tend to have excess skin hanging, which only a tummy tuck surgery can fix.
I have met ladies who, in a few cases, had a tummy tuck alone because they were always very skinny, but most of my patients come for the combination of a tummy tuck along with liposuction. And, I have witnessed very amazing results after this combination of surgery.
For those readers who don’t know a tummy tuck is, here is general information to understand it:
“Abdominoplasty,” or tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure designed to flatten the abdomen by removing excess skin and fat (sometimes caused by weight loss or childbirth). This procedure includes tightening the muscles of the abdominal wall. Tummy tucks can dramatically reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen and restore a more youthful appearance. When combined with liposuction, the result is a tummy that is firm, flat and more attractive
The surgery itself involves a lateral incision in order to tighten the muscles, and you will be happy to know that in Costa Rica, advanced techniques are used to place the stitches underneath the skin to lessen the appearance of having surgery. In small areas beneath the incision, your surgeon will place tiny plastic tubes to allow fluid to drain and to help with healing.
What happens after the surgery?
Most tummy tucks are outpatient surgeries, which means you will be released from the surgery center a few hours after the procedure. In Costa Rica, this means returning to the Costa Rica Medical Center Inn where registered nurses will take care of you during a short recovery.
Post-op pain is very manageable and you will be provided with antibiotics and pain medication for at least one week. You will be able to stand and move around slowly on the day after surgery, and by the end of one week you will be able to stand up straight and move normally. “There’s significant tightness across the abdomen,” patients say. A girdle or “garment” will typically be prescribed by the doctor to help with draining and to help you walk and stand straight for further tightening of the abdomen.
For the first four days you may need assistance to sit and stand, and the nurses and staff at the Costa Rica Medical Center Inn will provide all of the help you need. You will also need help getting in and out of your compression garment, so they will help with that. Even though you may not feel like getting out of bed, you’ll be encouraged to get up and move around a few times a day to increase circulation and help with healing.
Initial swelling and bruising decreases in about a week, and over a few months your body will become tight and slim. You will gradually return to your normal activity and exercise routines over a short time.
It will take some time for your body to fully heal, so don’t push the recovery process. Please keep in mind it is not recommended that you lift anything heavy (like a small child) for the first six weeks afterward. So my advice is, just allow your body to heal at a slower pace for best results.
