Preparation for the big day of your postponed plastic surgery due to the coronavirus
April 21, 2020Hello to all my readers! As we are transitioning into the different stages of this pandemic, surely many plans in your life were pushed back until things are safe. If one of your near future plans is to have a medical vacation either for plastic surgery or dental work, then while you are at home you can start preparing yourself for that big day!
You have been saving money, planning and waiting for so long, so I will give you some important tips to get the best results of your procedures and also a very smooth recovery process.
Let’s start with your eating habits: start now to clean up your diet! Make sure you eat a well-balanced diet with tons of antioxidants and vitamins because these are key points to ensure a healthy and faster recovery following surgery.
Secondly and also very important is to stop alcohol intake for as long as you can before the surgery. That will help prevent inflammation after the procedure and contribute to the overall healing of surgery.
Third and perhaps the most difficult one is to stop smoking. The doctors typically recommend stopping smoking 4 weeks prior to surgery but honestly the sooner you do it the better it will be. I know this is hard to do. It is not a requirement, but a strong suggestion to take this opportunity to quit. I have seen cases of patients with a very slow recovery process such as bruising and stitches not healing at a normal pace because they did not stop smoking with enough time prior to the surgery. So plan to quit now in preparation for the big day!
Going back to the healthy life style, it is important for post-surgery healing. We have a well-known fact that a daily routine of working out and strengthening your muscles will yield better healing results following surgery. There are a lot of online videos and tutorials for working out at home.
In addition to a good diet and daily workout, you must avoid sun exposure and wear sunscreen. These are both important steps in preparing for any type of facial or body plastic surgery.
And the last pre-op preparation tip is taking time for yourself to keep a positive mindset. Try something new if you think it will be helpful for you. Something like a meditation session, a good yoga stretch, watching your favorite movie in the evening or taking your time each week to call your loved ones.
Since we don’t know when this will be virus problem will be over, it is better to get prepared for your already-planned medical vacation so you will be ready. Keep yourself healthy in all aspects for a better healing and you will be sure to get the best results.
